Co-owners of Event Studio, Myca Smith and Stephanie Hlinak offer Chicagoans over 20 years of experience in design and event planning. The duo met while working in event management at The Merchandise Mart. While Myca left to pursue independent event consulting, the pair
reunited in 2009 bringing to life their true passion for event planning and design with Event Studio.
Originally from Joplin, MO, Myca’s passion for design began early in life, growing up in a home where her parents were always entertaining friends, family and clients. After graduating from Indiana University, Myca accepted an event planning position at The Merchandise Mart. During her eight years in this position, she planned and coordinated events varying in size from 10 people to 5,000 people and taking place in Chicago, New York, Los Angeles, Baltimore, Atlanta, and Toronto. Also during her time at The Merchandise Mart, Myca honed her skills and developed her own sense of modern, contemporary style.
After graduating from DePaul University in Chicago, Stephanie Hlinak also took a position at The Merchandise Mart. During her ten years at The Merchandise Mart, Stephanie was responsible for planning many tradeshows and special events within various industries in Chicago, LA, Miami, New York, Baltimore, Atlanta and Toronto. Here, Stephanie developed a love for entertaining, knack for planning events and an eye for design. When approached by her friend and former colleague, she was thrilled with the idea of opening Event Studio. She brings a traditional, French, eclectic style to the studio.
